2023 Fishing Report
Mar 5, 2024
Maybe it’s pitching heavy metal and picking your way through strings of weeds. It could’ve been rocking a jig over some grunge-covered stones. Perhaps you were doing the cisco disco, tuning a fresh rap, or you were jazzing up a spinner with a faster tempo, but everyone got into the swing of things. With these classical presentations, while floating in such prime country, you can’t help but score. You can either go solo or band together to chart and tour the lake. Note that once you pop a couple of good-sized fish, there is no alternative, you’ve got the rhythm.
Hearing that drag sing its sweet melody is good for the soul, it will get anyone out of a funk. We like to think that’s the soundtrack of Aikens Lake Wilderness Lodge and you are the maestro. Fishing here is a surefire cure for the blues. Now that’s music to our ears!
It was a great season on the water at Aikens Lake in 2023. This past year was a prime example of our lake’s tremendous ability to produce consistent and jaw-dropping fishing experiences for our guests. We had another fantastic year of bookings with tremendous numbers of guests; each of them trying their hand at the bounties Aikens Lake had to offer.
Here are Aikens Lake’s largest recorded fish by species in 2023:
- 29.5” Walleye caught by Ms. Serena Villarreal of Scottsdale, AZ.
- 45” Northern Pike caught by Mr. “Crazy Rob” from IN.
- 40” Lake Trout caught by Mr. Noah Perkins of Winnipeg, MB.
- 25.5” Whitefish caught by Mr. Jared Niessen of Winnipeg, MB.
- 30” Burbot caught by Mr. Michael Cepukenas of Milwaukee, WI.
- 20” Sucker caught by Mr. Stephen Ogilvie of Picton, ON.
TRIPLE CROWN
Aikens Lake is one of the few places anglers can try their hand at boating the “Big Three” of Canadian sportfishing (trophy walleye, northern pike, and lake trout). This rare feat was accomplished this season in late July by Mr. Tommy Lawton. His 28” walleye, 41” pike and 36” lake trout put him in some quite select company. Congratulations Tommy on earning the Aikens Lake “Triple Crown”!
Century Club
Our signature Century Club greeted many new entries this season. This popular challenge is unique and available only to guests of Aikens Lake Wilderness Lodge. The target is to catch four walleyes during your guided day that total 100” or more. This is an exciting and fun-filled challenge that motivates anglers to really search out the big ones.
Our constant commitment to quality resource management, diligent stewardship, and Catch & Release (save for shorelunch, of course) have ensured Aikens Lake Wilderness Lodge will continue to provide its visitors with world-class angling opportunities. To our returning guests who are counting down the days till their return and to our first-time inductees into the “Aikens Experience” we genuinely look forward to sharing and forging new memories with you in 2024. See you at the lake!
