As you read in last week's blog, Aikens donated a trip to the Children's Wish Foundation of Manitoba to fish with Jonathan Toews. This week there was another big charity event featuring celebrity hockey players, the Manitoba Moose Gala Dinner. All of the funds raised through the Yearling Foundation are donated to over 20 local charities for children... including the Children's Wish Foundation! We have a long history with the Moose which dates back to the NHL days when the Jets had the "Jets Goals For Kids" charity. The Yearling Foundation raises alot of their money by selling 50/50 tickets at all Moose home games. However, their yearly Gala Dinner is also a great fundraiser as it attracts over 700 people at nearly $200/plate, and it's truly a wonderful event to be a part of! The evening consisted of dressing room tours, a chance to meet the Moose players (Tyler Bouck sat at our table and really had a keen interest in Aikens!), a fantastic 4 course meal, keynote speakers including ex-NHL goaltender and current Hockey Night in Canada broadcaster Kelly Hrudey, and a stand-up comedy routine by Brent Butts that had the whole crowd slapping their knees! There were nearly 100 auction items ranging from signed sticks and jerseys to one-of-a-kind items like a practice on the ice with Moose players! An autographed Jonathan Toews jersey (Team Canada) sold for nearly $500! The Aikens Lake trip to fish with Moose GM Craig Heisinger and ex-captain/current head coach Scott Arniel was definitely one of the crown jewels in the "Featured Auction". The Foundation once again raised thousands and thousands through the sale of our trip. We are proud to be associated with such a worthwhile organization, and we look forward to hosting Craig, Scott, and the lucky couple that purchased the trip this June!
